volunteer to sail this summer
This is your chance to discover a new lifestyle.
Like golf, sailing can be learned in a few years but takes a lifetime to master. Discover a new hobby in exchange for crewing on charters.
Sail Training
Leave port at 9am for group lessons on Saturday and return around noon. Sailing is learned through practice and repetition. Our volunteers make a summer-long, weekly commitment to their training and to crewing on our charters. Thats a minimum of one training per week (assuming that we don’t have a conflicting booking) . Our sailing season runs from May 1st through September 30th.
We understand that life happens and so you may not be able to make every training but we expect you to honor the nature of your commitment by making almost all trainings.
No experience required
I won’t place you in situations that you’ll find over your head. Your first season involves sailing theory, trimming the jib sail, possibly some boat scrubbing, and seeing to the comfort of our guests. As our crew, you’ll learn boating basics including handling docking, and also head sail trimming. You’ll also learn some terminology, and knots.
For those who have sailing experience already, we will work on intermediate theory. We’ll get you some experience at the helm and with running the main sheet, and teach you how to dock the boat as skipper.
How can I help in return?
You'll crew on the boat during charters a minimum of once per week (you pick which ones you want to do using an app which notifies you when we receive a new booking), and you can volunteer for as many as you like). At first on charters, you'll help guests with drinks, take pictures, chat with them, and help us trim sail and dock the boat. As you get better at sailing, I'll have you trimming more sails and skippering the boat.
I expect all volunteers to honor their commitment from May through September.
