volunteer to sail this summer

This is your chance to discover a new lifestyle.

Like golf, sailing can be learned fairly quickly but takes a lifetime to master. Discover a new hobby in exchange for crewing on charters.

Two men. One sailing a boat while the other trims the sails.

Time commitment

Leave port at 9am on Saturday and return around noon. Sailing is learned through practice and repetition. Our volunteers make a summer-long, weekly commitment to their learning in exchange for crewing on a few of our charters. Our sailing season typically runs from May through September.

No experience required

I won’t place you in situations that you’ll find over your head. Your first season involves training (and some boat scrubbing). You’ll learn boating basics including docking, sail trimming and possibly, even get to steer the boat. You’ll also learn some sailing theory, terminology, and knots.

How can I help in return?

At the beginning of your second season, you’ll be asked to crew on the boat during charters a couple of times each month. At first, you’ll be asked to help the guests with drinks, pictures, and conversation. Eventually, as your technical understanding of sailing improves, I’ll ask you to help me trim the sails when we turn with guests on board.
